Taco Bout it Tuesday

That's right...you guessed it today is my favorite, Taco Tuesday. If you know me then you know I am a taco girl 100%. When I'm really craving tacos I want the real deal, authentic and traditional: corn tortilla, steak, chopped white onion, cilantro, and lime, simple and delicious, that's all this girl needs, none of those extra fillings and toppings. Today howeve,r tacos have become very versatile and there are a variety of different unique and fun ways to dress them up. I love trying new tacos whether it be a fun trendy place with a unique twist on a traditional taco or just your average taco joint serving up the simple yet authentic stuff!

What is a taco comprised of:

1.) Tortilla or taco shell- Again we now have a variety of different options, corn (white or yellow), flour, wheat, hard or soft shells, open faced tostadas, just to name a few.

2.) Meat- Beef (ground or steak), chicken, pork (usually pulled), fish, shrimp. There is also the option of going vegan or vegetarian no cheese or meats.

3.) Cheeses- Well you already know there are so many cheeses to choose from. You can stick to cotjia or chihuahua, which are popular Mexican cheeses, or go with the some American choices, shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, pepper jack, I've even seen goat cheese before!

4.) Toppings: beans, lettuce, avocado or guac, sour cream, salsas, tomato, onion, peppers, cucumbers, jicama, cilantro, roasted veggies, even fruits (the options are endless!)!

Really I think you could put anything on a tortilla shell, fold it over or eat it open-faced, and it would be called a taco!

I want to share with you all a few of my favorite taco places in the Chicago area! I'm also sharing today my recipe for my vegetarian style tacos!

If you're looking for some authentic style tacos in Chicago here are some options:

1.) L' Patron- The tacos are traditional and have exceptional flavor, the steak was my favorite. You order your food up front and then are called up when your order is ready. More of fast casual dining. The atmosphere is also tons of fun with a patio outside and BYOB.

2.) Cafe El Tapatio- This restaurant instantly became my favorite Mexican place in Chicago! I have never once had a bad meal and I think they may have the best guacamole! They offer very traditional menu items, but some newer items may have a unique flare to them! The waiters are all very friendly and accommodating!

Trendy, non-traditional places:

1.) Antique Taco- Fun trendy place in Wicker Park with unique taco combinations

2.) aXcan Grill (Forest Park)- Fun and unique taco platters also great tequila and drinks!

3.) Big Star

Alright so enough talking let's get to cooking and eating those tacos.
